Resources for Educators

Resources for Educators have been vetted by the North Shore Education Committee for the Prevention of Disordered Eating comprising representatives from Family Services of the North Shore, Vancouver Coastal Health and School Districts 44 and 45 (North and West Vancouver).

According to research in eating disorders prevention, teaching should focus on resiliency, body image & self esteem, media literacy and healthy eating not signs and symptoms of eating disorders.

The Student Body modules with corresponding Health and Career Education Prescribed Learning Outcomes for grades 4-7 is a program recommended for elementary students.  Planning 10 Lesson Plans have been developed by the North Shore Education Committee for the Prevention of Disordered Eating.  This is a 3 unit curriculum with corresponding prescribed learning outcomes. Other curriculum examples are also available.

It is also important for schools to be aware of and create guidelines for early detection and prevention of eating disorders.
