Christmas Bureau

For over 40 years, the Christmas Bureau has symbolized our community’s willingness to help low-income North Shore families with children 18 years or younger, seniors, people with disabilities and those living in isolation. Local families and individuals celebrate the holidays thanks to community members who provide Christmas hampers filled with grocery gift cards, gifts and toys. Every request for assistance is treated with compassion, respect and confidentiality. This annual program ensures that families, seniors and individuals experiencing financial hardship can participate in celebrating the season.

Create A Christmas Hamper

The Christmas Bureau relies entirely on the Sponsor a Family Program, financial donations , in-kind donations and the support of  volunteers. Your gift is shared with hundreds of low-income families, including children 18 and younger, seniors and persons with disabilities who rely on the generosity of the community families at Christmas and throughout the year. The Christmas Bureau is open from October 15th to December 20th, 2018. For more detailed information on what it means to sponsor a family, read our information sheet.

Seniors
You can help with the basic necessities.  Every year with the support of people like you, the Christmas Bureau provides hampers to low income seniors from age 65 and to low income persons with disabilities. We are often asked to provide items that make life a little more comfortable - the simple luxuries that are out of reach to many on a fixed-income.

A few suggestions for items:

  • Gift box of cookies, tea or coffee, chocolates, specialty foods
  • Calendar, stationery, magazines
  • Toiletries, shampoo, shaving cream, nice soaps
  • Candles, napkins, kitchen towels, mugs, kitchen items
  • T-shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters, socks, scarves, gloves, pajamas
  • Blankets, bedding, towels, household accessories
  • Household tools, umbrella, tote bags
  • Certificates for restaurants, movie theatre, books, music, clothing, department and drug stores

Tax receipts will be issued for all in-kind donations over $20.00. Please note that we are unable to allocate portions of a receipt to more than one contributor. Original receipts must accompany each contributor's Tax Receipt Request Form.

Download and complete the Tax Receipt Request Form. Attach all your original sales receipts, including the receipt or photocopy of the Grocery Gift Card. Mail to the FSNS office prior to December 31, 2018 or drop off your completed form with original receipts at the Hamper Exchange.
