We are here to support you and your family during the COVID-19 crisis.  

When pandemic landed in our community last year, we quickly adapted all of our counselling, parent support, and outreach services to serve you through phone support and online platforms, until we were able to meet in person.  We continue using our social media to connect with you and to provide information you will find helpful.

Our COVID-19 related services include:

COUNSELLING SUPPORT

We know it can be difficult to reach out for help, but we are here for you and your family. We are here to help you get through this.  To listen, to provide parenting tips, to talk through what you are experiencing, and to help you move through this challenging time.  We continue to offer our regular counselling services, via phone, virtually, and in person as needed.  Our counselling services are offered on a sliding fee scale based on income.

THRIVE FAMILY PROGRAMS

Our Thrive Family Programs continue to support families and caregivers with children aged 0-6 years.  During this time, we are offering support and services virtually and in person, as listed below:

    • Thrive Outdoor Summer drop-in program starts up July 6 and provides an opportunity to play, learn, and connect with your child in our gated yard at Maplewood Centre.  This summer’s program does not require pre-registration.  Program takes place Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 9:30-11:30am, from July 6-August 5, 2021.  For additional information click here.
    • Parent Support Group with Kim, Family Support Navigator, and Erin, Clinical Counsellor, via online meeting platform.  To participate download our registration form, complete and email  back to Thrive to register.  Please include Parent Support Group in the subject line.
    • Breastfeeding Support Group with Marianne, Lactation Consultant, and Kim, Family Support Navigator, and Alyssa, Lactation Consultant, via online meeting platform.  To participate, download and complete our registration form, and to register email completed form to Thrive by clicking here.  Please include Breastfeeding in the subject line of your email.

GENDER BASED VIOLENCE AND TRAUMA SUPPORT

We know that gender based violence and child abuse increase dramatically when disasters strike, as well in the short-, medium-, and long-term recovery times post disaster. If you are experiencing this and need support, call our intake line at 604-988-5281. Our services are offered over the phone or via online platforms as well – with additional considerations for your safety during this time.

SENIORS AND CAREGIVERS

Through our established Seniors and Caregivers programs, the following supports and services are being offered:

    • Individual support for family and friends caring for an older adult living at home via phone or online meeting platform
    • Caregiver information, resources, and referrals
    • Individual support for seniors living with chronic or terminal illness, via phone or online meeting platform
    • Grief Support Group for people grieving the loss of a loved one, via online meeting platform
    • Online Support Group for North Shore Caregivers looking after a family member or friend at home, the second Friday of each month at 1:00pm.  Registration required, click here for details

VOLUNTEER OUTREACH TO VULNERABLE SENIORS AND FAMILIES

Our volunteers are calling seniors and families who have been recipients of the Christmas Bureau to check-in and determine any needs they may have at this time, that we can assist with.

EATING DISORDERS AND DISORDERED EATING PREVENTION

EMBODY supports the prevention of eating disorders and disordered eating.We recognize that current quarantine and social distancing protocols can significantly impact regular eating and exercise routines, resulting in distress and/or challenges with mood regulation. The following supports are in place:

    • Phone and email support services are continuing
    • Social media promoting available support services in ways relevant to the audience, and to our current global and local situations relative to COVID-19

LGBTQ2S+ SUPPORT VIRTUAL GROUPS

PROUD2BE Yourself drop-in groups for youth

If you’re aged 16-24 and identify as queer, transgender, two-spirit, and/or questioning, please join us for this free, weekly drop-in group. You’ll connect with other North Shore and Metro Vancouver youth in a safe space, with discussions led by an experienced master’s level counsellor. Share your experiences, ask questions, and explore your identity among people who are here to support you.  We meet virtually each week, via online meeting platform.  To learn more, and receive the meeting link, please email our team, proud2be@familyservices.bc.ca  We look forward to you joining us. 

PROUD2BE drop-in groups for parents

Join other North Shore and Metro Vancouver parents of gender-diverse youth for safe, judgment-free discussions co-facilitated by two experienced counsellors. This free, weekly drop-in group is a welcoming place for you to connect, ask questions, and learn more about how to support your child.  We meet virtually on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:00pm.  To learn more, and receive the meeting link, please email proud2be@familyservices.bc.ca  We look forward to you joining us.
